Building Materials

Author: Thomas Morva

One of the most important factors that can determine the durability of a home is the type of building materials used to construct it. Homes that are made of high-quality materials last for long periods of time and these homes also stand a good chance of weathering extreme conditions such as typhoons. However, using high-quality building materials may involve higher costs. But most people say that such materials are worth the investment, as savings are ensured, simply because these houses need minimal repairs and maintenance. To be able to offset some of the costs that are involved in using high-quality building materials, the manufacturers have developed new ways by which they can still provide some of the best building materials at more affordable prices. One of these include the development of the concept of pre-fabricated homes or building materials, which involves a factory providing ready-made homes or parts of homes to contractors and home owners alike.

Prefab

The manufacturers who build pre-fabricated homes and home parts boast that because they make them in a factory setting where specifications are strictly followed and because they are designed to endure the rigors of transport, their products are of the highest quality. In addition to these, manufacturing prefabs have also made it possible for manufacturers to develop a number of designs and concepts that consumers can choose from in the market.

Some types of prefabs

One of the most common types of prefab is the manufactured residential dwelling, which buyers only need to transport to the place where they want to build their house. Another type are panelized homes, which are factory-built homes wherein panels (walls with doors, windows, wiring and outside siding) are transported to the construction site, ready for installation. Some other types include the steel-frame, which are used to support the walls and the roof of the house, and pre-cut materials, which are factory-built building materials based on the specifications of the buyer.

For a home to last, it has to be built using some of the best building materials. However, doing so can involve very high costs, which some buyers may not be able to afford. Given this, manufacturers have come up with ways to provide quality building materials at more affordable prices.
